Dunfield House Winter 2005/2006
Much has happened since we last updated the
web-site! In August Fred, who had been our house
manager for more than ten years [probably longer
than he would care to remember,] decided that
he had had enough and wanted to move on. Helen,
his wife, decided that she had better go with
him! They now live in Leicester , which was always
Fred's favourite place. The shock of their leaving
affected many and some others decided to leave
our employ - not just because Fred and Helen
had gone, but, in part, because they missed them!
So there are new faces at Dunfield.
Sue and Paul Norton were appointed as from 1
st November 2005 as joint house managers. They
are welcome and bring a fresh approach to the
centre. As customers get to know them, and they
the customers, we look forward to a long and
happy association.
There have been improvements in the past months.
The work on the ladies' wash-room and toilets
at the top of the first stairs, re-vamped with
showers, has been completed. A new ramp for the
physically challenged has been made outside the
chapel door, and in the next few days this will
be finished with a sturdy wrought iron handrail.
The intention of the Charity which owns Dunfield
and the Board which manages it remains unchanged
- that improvements will be made as money is
available and planning permission is granted
for this Grade II listed building.
In September 2005 we saw the 40 th Anniversary
of the Charity's ownership of Dunfield. Celebrations
were held in which we both looked back and looked
forward. A week's full board at Dunfield 40 years
ago cost £8.8.0 [eight guineas to the uninitiated.]
Don't anyone ask for such a price nowadays, though
the centre remains good value for money and very
competitive. One of the things to mark the anniversary
was a new watercolour done of the house by a
local artist. He has signed and numbered copies
which are for sale from the shop. You can see
something of it beside this report - the original
is better!
The next big job will be the outside painting
and decoration, which will be carried out as
the weather allows.
If you want to know about Sue and Paul ring
them up and have a chat. The welcome will be
undiminished from that that Fred gave you - the
location is just as good as it ever was and the
food will still be generous and to the Dunfield
standard!
