Dunfield House June 2006
Last winter we wrote of the take-over, from Fred,
of our new house managers, Sue and Paul. They have
now had time to settle in, and many of our customers
have had time to get to know them. We would not want
them to get too big-headed but their style of management
seems to have gone down very well. Just how well is
hinted at by the following two extracts from communications
received in recent weeks:
From a card: “I have just arrived home from ‘Dunfield’ and
felt I must write to congratulate you both on the lovely “new
image” you have brought to this special place.
You have put light and colour into every room and made
it all so welcoming. The meals were great…...Dunfield
has and always will be a very, very special and unique
place – and it was certainly extra in every way.”
From an email circulated to many: “The three
of us had our first holiday as a family last weekend.
We went away with our cell group to Dunfield House
near Kington in Herefordshire. We cannot sing the praises
of this place enough, as well as the praises and dear
appreciation for Sue and Paul Norton, Dunfield’s
managers. The place is a Christian retreat centre,
set in 17 acres of gorgeous tree-filled grounds nestled
into the borderland hills of Herefordshire. The peace
and quiet there is idyllic, the scenery spectacular.
All this pales though when compared to the real love
and service that each of us in the group and as a whole
were given during our two night stay. We were lavished
with top quality locally produced home cooked meals
three times a day which featured puddings that were
HUGE…….etc.”
It is nice to know when efforts are appreciated. We
have always tried to give good service – and
we still do!
The outside painting of the house, mews and recreation
hall is well on the way to completion. The interior
of the house has had a face-lift in many parts. Plans
are afoot to renew the path down to the swimming pool
to make this area more user friendly for all people.
By winter, we hope to have new central heating in the
recreation hall – which should please many including
our musician friends as they rehearse!
We have said before that with a Grade II listed building
such as we have there is always something crying out
to be done. This does not stop the managing Committee
and Company Board from seeking ways to make improvements.
A questionnaire completed recently by some of our customers
said that more classroom, rehearsal or craft space
would be appreciated – and would improve the
facilities tremendously. The whole question of adding
such facilities is being looked at very seriously.
Watch this space!
