| YOUTH ORGANISATIONS
Youth organisations using Dunfield House seem to appreciate
the opportunity to come to a Young People Friendly
Centre.
The centre is, of course, beautifully
located in the Welsh border hills. Young people are
able to relax
as they are introduced here to the different, laid
back, way of life in the country. (We have noticed
that this is especially true when the group comes from
an inner city environment.) They appreciate too the
sense of space.
Most of the youth organisations
that use the facilities of Dunfield House tend, however,
to come for some specific
reason other than that of simply a holiday or break “away
from it all.” For instance, groups from many
different local authorities’ Sport, Youth, Community & Play
Divisions come to run Drama & Art courses. There
are others who run courses on Drug Awareness or on
Health Education focusing on issues such as teenage
pregnancy with young male and female teenagers attending
courses using ‘Baby Think It Over’ dolls
(computerised dolls that demand attention 24 hours
a day and thus give the young people an insight into
the responsibilities of parenthood.)
Some organisations run courses just for a particular
teenage gender focusing on the needs that they have
as a group of either teenage girls or boys. Such courses
will consider how the teenagers might deal with issues
relevant to that particular group. There is no doubt
that for courses such as these the comparative seclusion
of Dunfield House makes an ideal setting.
Even though many courses are specifically focused
time can always be found for leisure activities away
(but not too far away) from the centre, for example:
canoeing, pony trekking, wall climbing, mountain biking
etc. in the locality, or simply walking from the House
or scrambling up nearby Bradnor Hill.
With all youngsters food is important! The staff at
Dunfield do all they can to establish what type of
menu will fit the bill for any visiting youth group;
no one should ever need to feel hungry while at the
centre. Click here to visit the Catering section.
While we welcome all ages we are a young people friendly
centre. |
